When Hidden Mantra asked me to do a cassette release with the label, my initial thought was to do two contrasting sides. Something I’ve thought of before but hard to do on a cd. My idea was to have one side minimal, and as a contrast, the other would be maximal. Whether I’ve really achieved this or not is a matter of interpretation I guess. Is the maximal side just like the minimal with distortion pedals? I like to think not....

So, the minimal side is a single 20 minute piece which slowly grows and develops. The maximal side has three tracks - the final one a single take solo guitar piece, and the others more composed and densely layered (maximal?).

It is released Saturday 12 December via the Hidden Mantra Bandcamp page at 7pm UK time.

There are 25 cassettes and 50 CD-R copies, each with the same music.

Sleeves are by Paul Meggs (Mr Hidden Mantra) and each comes with a unique photo print (photos by me) and badge ... more
